The campaign that changes everything is mostly a story told afterwards. What actually moves a brand is a decade of small, boring agreement about what it is.
The compounding part
Recognition compounds only if the thing being recognised stops changing. Every redesign resets part of that balance to zero, which is why the most valuable identities in the world look almost exactly as they did twenty years ago.
Say one true thing, in the same voice, for longer than feels comfortable.
What to keep fixed
- The position — the sentence you would defend in public.
- The voice — how it sounds when a person, not a department, says it.
- The marks — the two or three things people can pick out at a glance.
Everything else can move. Campaigns, channels, formats, even the palette. Those are clothes; the rest is the person wearing them.
